The Teaser Trailer
The Trailer
The Teaser Trailer begins by seeing two dogs carry out two activities that dogs do (sleep a lot and waiting for their owners) and are know for doing therefore it is effective as it fits with the title 'The Secret Life of Pets' straight away. As soon as the owners leave the dogs talk about there day and the mundane activities they are participating in. There is no music in the opening sequence which is effective as we can focus on the conversation between the two characters and identify instantly what the relationship between the two characters are.The use of non-diegetic sound such as the use of music gives the trailer an upbeat feel as the audience see the animals breaking the stereotype of what we believe animal do.
Although, i think this teaser trailer is good as its its humorous the overall storyline is not introduced. This therefore, may make the parential guardians of the viewers sceptical as we do not know what may occur in the film. This differs from the official trailer which clearly shows the overall storyline of the film whilst continues the idea that pets have a secret life.
The font used in the text credits is large which along with it being in visible colours makes it stand out to the audience and allows them to see the writing clearly. The colour theme of the text is continued throughout the teaser trailer.
In the teaser trailer we see the use of costume through the use of a collar. This gives the audience an idea instantly to which animals are stray and which ones are owned. I have seen the film and believe this is important in the film too therefore, they have ensured that all of the owned dogs are visibly wearing collars to show this.

As we can see from the table above, the film did great in the box office. An important part in getting people to see the film in the cinema is the teaser trailer and trailer. I think that this backs up my finding that this trailer was effective and did its job well of presenting the film in a humorous yet age appropriate way whilst having a unique and interesting storyline.
The use of bright colours meets the needs of the target audience well, as children like bright colours. This will grab the attention of the audience as their needs are being met.
